A winter storm warning has been issued for 23 counties in Michigan, with near-blizzard conditions expected. The National Weather Service has upgraded the previous winter storm watch to a warning, indicating more severe weather conditions. The warning includes strong wind gusts up to 40 mph, which will combine with fresh, fluffy snow to create hazardous travel conditions. The western third of lower Michigan is particularly affected, with snowfall expected to range from six inches to one foot west of U.S. 131. Eastern Michigan will see lighter snowfall, between one to three inches, but blowing and drifting snow will still pose challenges. The Upper Peninsula is also forecasted to receive heavy snowfall.
