Nearly one million people have been evacuated across the Philippines as Super Typhoon Fung-wong, known locally as Uwan, approaches with sustained winds near 185 km/h and gusts up to 230 km/h. The super typhoon made landfall in the Bicol region early Sunday morning and is expected to sweep across Luzon by nightfall. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has issued warnings for widespread rainfall, anticipating up to 200mm of rain in affected areas. This heavy rainfall is expected to trigger dangerous floods and landslides, posing a significant threat to communities in vulnerable regions.
