High winds threaten Rockies, Plains, Pacific Northwest
High Wind Warnings are in effect across the Rockies, Plains, and Pacific Northwest from early Wednesday through Thursday morning, December 18, 2025. A rapidly deepening low-pressure system east of the Canadian Rockies is expected to produce gusts of 60–80 mph, with isolated mountain passes seeing up to 100 mph. Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado face the strongest winds, risking downed trees, power outages, and hazardous travel. Blowing snow may create whiteout conditions in the northern Plains. As the system moves east, severe thunderstorms and localized flooding are possible, prompting residents to secure property and limit travel.
