US · Published Nov 10, 2025
A coronal mass ejection (CME) from a recent solar flare is predicted to reach Earth by Tuesday.
This CME could trigger minor to moderate geomagnetic storms, potentially leading to displays of the northern lights.
The best viewing opportunities for the aurora borealis are expected Tuesday night into Wednesday morning across northern U.S. states, Canada, and parts of Europe.
Solar flare causes potential geomagnetic storm
A major solar flare erupted on Sunday, sending a coronal mass ejection (CME) hurtling towards Earth. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Space Weather Prediction Center, the CME is expected to arrive by Tuesday, potentially sparking minor to moderate geomagnetic storms. There's even a slight chance of a stronger G3-level geomagnetic storm late Tuesday into early Wednesday.
