Tornado hits Kankakee County, widespread damage
A powerful EF3 tornado has devastated Kankakee County, Illinois, leaving nearly 500 structures damaged and numerous residents displaced. The tornado, packing winds between 136 and 165 mph, ripped through the county, causing extensive destruction to homes, schools, and critical infrastructure, including the Kankakee County jail and courthouse, and Riverside Medical Center. Governor JB Pritzker has pledged the state's full support and is actively seeking federal aid to assist in the recovery efforts.
