Brilliant auroras, visible as far south as Florida, illuminated North American skies on November 11 due to a strong geomagnetic storm.
The G4 geomagnetic storm, caused by solar activity, had the potential to disrupt GPS, power grids, and communication systems.
Experts predicted storm effects could continue, offering another chance to see the dazzling auroras.
Northern Lights visible as far as Florida
On November 11th, a spectacular display of auroras, also known as the Northern Lights, graced the skies over North America. The lights were visible as far south as Florida, a rare occurrence made possible by a powerful G4 geomagnetic storm impacting the Earth's atmosphere. This geomagnetic storm was triggered by a series of coronal mass ejections (CMEs) and a significant solar flare emitted from the sun earlier in the week.
