Severe flooding hits Hawaii, causing widespread damage
Hawaii is currently facing its most severe flooding in two decades, resulting in significant damage across O'ahu and Maui. Torrential storms have brought up to four feet of rain, causing widespread devastation. Governor Josh Green estimates that the financial impact could exceed $1 billion, affecting critical infrastructure such as airports, schools, roads, and homes. The flooding has compounded the challenges faced by communities still recovering from wildfires from two years ago. Evacuation orders were issued north of Honolulu, and rescue teams have saved over 200 people. The National Guard has been deployed to assist residents, with more than 2,000 individuals experiencing power outages. The state is receiving federal support to aid in the ongoing recovery efforts.
