Maryland prepares for winter storm on December 26
Maryland is preparing for a winter storm that is expected to impact travel conditions on Friday, December 26, 2025. The WJZ First Alert Weather Team has declared Friday a First Alert Weather Day due to a wintry mix of freezing rain and sleet anticipated in central and northern Maryland. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Carroll, Harford, Howard, Baltimore, Baltimore City, Kent, and Cecil counties, along with most of western Maryland. An Ice Storm Warning is in effect for Garrett County, where up to half an inch of sleet and freezing rain may accumulate. The storm will start quietly in the morning, with conditions worsening after lunchtime, leading to slippery travel, especially north of I-70.
