WMO report reveals record greenhouse gas levels and Earth's energy imbalance.
Glacier melt and sea ice loss are accelerating, with significant annual reductions.
Oceans absorb excess heat, leading to marine heatwaves and acidification.
Concerning assessment of planet's rapidly changing climate
The World Meteorological Organization's (WMO) 2025 State of the Global Climate Report delivers a concerning assessment of the planet's rapidly changing climate. The report highlights that atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations have reached unprecedented levels, with CO2 at 433.9 ppm in 2024, marking the highest levels in 800,000 years. The Earth's energy imbalance is now at 18:1, contributing to the hottest eleven years on record. A significant portion of excess heat, over 90%, is being absorbed by the oceans, leading to marine heatwaves and ocean acidification, with global sea levels rising by 11 cm since 1993.
