Researcher falls into glacier stream, rescue suspended
A search and rescue operation for an Italian researcher who fell into a stream on Alaska's Mendenhall Glacier has been called off due to hazardous conditions. The researcher was swept into a moulin, a vertical shaft in the glacier, making recovery efforts extremely dangerous because of the rushing water. This incident follows the recent discovery of the body of Thomas Casey, a 69-year-old hiker from Arizona, in the same vicinity.
