Southern California prepares for record-breaking heat wave
Southern California is bracing for a significant heat wave this week that threatens to break several temperature records across the region. The National Weather Service attributes this surge in temperature to a strong high-pressure system, which is causing temperatures to rise significantly above the seasonal average. Daytime highs are expected to reach the upper 70s and lower 80s in most areas, with the valleys potentially experiencing temperatures in the 90s. Burbank is forecasted to reach 89°F (32°C), potentially breaking a 40-year-old record. Downtown Los Angeles may tie last year's record at 88°F (31°C), and Woodland Hills could see temperatures of 91°F (33°C), just shy of its record. San Diego County is expected to face even more extreme conditions, with temperatures as much as 25 degrees above seasonal norms, reaching the upper 90s in the low desert areas.
