Volunteers plant trees to reduce flood risks
In Ceredigion, Wales, the Tal-y-bont Treeplanters, a group of dedicated volunteers, are actively engaged in mitigating flood risks through an ambitious reforestation project. Over the past five winters, they have successfully planted 50,000 trees, including native species such as holly, hazel, and rowan, on elevated land situated approximately 1,000 feet above sea level. This initiative, coordinated by Linda Denton, aims to employ natural solutions to slow down water flow and, consequently, reduce the risk of flooding in the region. The strategic planting of trees enhances the land's capacity to absorb rainwater, minimizing runoff that contributes to flood events.
