Tropical Storm Humberto and a developing storm near Puerto Rico may trigger the rare Fujiwhara effect.
The Fujiwhara effect could cause unpredictable storm movements and intensify risks for the East Coast.
Residents are urged to monitor weather updates and prepare for potential impacts from altered storm paths.
Two storms may cause Fujiwhara effect
The Atlantic basin is currently under close watch as two tropical systems, Tropical Storm Humberto and a developing storm near Puerto Rico, edge closer, raising the possibility of a rare meteorological phenomenon known as the Fujiwhara effect. This interaction occurs when two tropical cyclones come within a certain distance of each other, typically around 900 miles, causing them to begin orbiting one another.
