Hurricane season's peak, but activity suppressed
The Atlantic Basin remains surprisingly quiet as the hurricane season reaches its historical peak. Typically, this period sees heightened tropical activity, but current conditions are suppressing storm formation. Elevated wind shear, which disrupts the vertical structure of developing storms, and an abundance of dry air, which inhibits the moist convection necessary for storm intensification, are key factors contributing to the calm.
