Deadly avalanche triggers backcountry warning issuance
Following a deadly avalanche near Truckee, California, the Sierra Avalanche Center and the National Weather Service (NWS) have issued a backcountry avalanche warning for the Greater Lake Tahoe area, effective through Thursday. The avalanche, classified as a D2.5-sized slide, occurred on Tuesday, February 17, impacting a group of backcountry skiers and resulting in multiple fatalities.
