Hawaii is currently grappling with an exceptionally wet season, marked by record-breaking rainfall across several islands. Data from the National Weather Service reveals unprecedented precipitation levels, with Honolulu airport recording 12.34 inches of rain between February 1 and March 15, the highest in over two decades. Maui's Kahului airport saw even more dramatic figures, with 18.9 inches, surpassing the previous record by 74%. Kauai's Lihue airport also reported significant rainfall, reaching 14.87 inches, the most in over a decade. The recent Kona low has exacerbated these conditions, leading to substantial rainfall in various locations, including 22.8 inches near Kailua. March 13 marked the wettest day at Honolulu airport since 2000, with 5.51 inches of rain. The forecast indicates continued heavy precipitation throughout the week.
