Global sea levels have risen by approximately 90 millimeters in the past 30 years.
Melting land ice, especially from Greenland and mountain glaciers, accounts for about 60% of the sea-level increase.
Advanced satellite laser ranging (SLR) technology has enabled precise measurement of ocean mass changes.
Sea levels rising due to melting ice
A recent scientific study reveals a concerning trend: global sea levels are rising at an alarming rate. This rise, measured with unprecedented accuracy using space laser technology, is primarily attributed to the melting of land ice, particularly from Greenland and mountain glaciers. Over the past 30 years, the global mean sea level has increased by approximately 90 millimeters, with about 60% of this increase directly linked to the growing mass of the oceans due to ice loss.
