High wind watch in north-central, southwest Montana
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued high wind watches for parts of north-central and southwest Montana, indicating the potential for sustained winds of 30 to 40 mph and gusts reaching 60 to 65 mph. These conditions are expected to begin late Tuesday night and continue through Wednesday. The advisory warns travelers of hazardous conditions, particularly for high-profile vehicles such as semis and RVs, which are vulnerable to sudden crosswinds. The NWS criteria for a high wind watch are met when forecasters have growing confidence in the possibility of damaging winds. The affected areas include Harrison, Havre, Three Forks, and several other locations, with approximately 47,000 residents within the alert zone. Officials caution that the winds could topple unsecured objects, snap tree limbs, and cause isolated power outages.
