Severe storms cause billion dollar damages
According to Governor Josh Green, Hawaii has experienced severe storms, resulting in approximately $1 billion in damages. The storms, the worst since 2004, have caused significant flooding across the state, particularly affecting Oahu. Parts of the Kuihelani Highway on Maui were temporarily closed due to fast-moving water but have since reopened. The Hawaii Department of Transportation reported rockfalls on roadways, and the Hawaii National Guard monitored the Wahiawa dam, which was at risk of overflowing, prompting evacuations. Water levels have stabilized, and over 230 people have been rescued without any reported fatalities. The White House is in contact with state officials, offering support as the situation develops.
