This extreme rainfall was fueled by a powerful atmospheric river that drew moisture from the central Pacific Ocean. The resulting storm caused widespread flooding, mud-covered roads, and downed trees, leading to a significant surge in emergency calls. Tragically, at least seven people have died across California due to the flooding and dangerous surf conditions.
