US & Europe See Spike in Fireballs: What’s Behind the Meteor Surge?
US · Published Mar 26, 2026
The US and Europe have seen a spike in fireball sightings in March 2026, with at least eight bright fireballs reported.
AMS data suggests clustering from the Anthelion sporadic source, but unrelated orbits indicate no single cause.
Scientists confirm these are natural heliocentric rocks, and increased reporting may amplify observed activity.
Increased fireball sightings in U.S. and Europe
The United States and Europe have recently experienced a noticeable surge in the sightings of fireballs during March 2026. Reports indicate at least eight bright fireballs streaking across the skies from Ohio to Texas, California to the Great Lakes, and various parts of Europe. These spectacular events have not only been visually stunning but have also, in some instances, produced sonic booms and led to the recovery of meteorites.
