A substantial wildfire is currently raging within the Big Cypress National Preserve in South Florida, having engulfed more than 25,000 acres (100 square kilometers) as of Wednesday. The fire's proximity to the immigration detention center known as 'Alligator Alcatraz' has raised concerns, although officials have assured that the facility, situated 20 miles (32 kilometers) east of the fire, is not presently in immediate danger.
