Pet owners should take precautions such as limiting outdoor activities, clearing yard debris, and knowing the symptoms of stings and bites to protect their animals.
Rising temperatures cause early scorpion, rattlesnake activity
Due to rising temperatures in Arizona, scorpions and rattlesnakes are becoming active earlier than usual, which poses a significant risk to pets. The Arizona Poison and Drug Information Center (AZPDIC) has already reported a notable increase in scorpion stings and rattlesnake bites in the Phoenix area. This early surge in activity is attributed to warmer weather, with temperatures frequently reaching 100°F (38°C), causing these creatures to emerge sooner than their typical peak season from April to October.
