Jersey Shore Faces Surge in Coastal Flooding Days in 2025
US · Published Sep 16, 2025
NOAA warns Jersey Shore could face a surge in coastal flooding days by 2025, especially in Sandy Hook.
Rising sea levels, driven by warming oceans, threaten to dramatically increase flood days to 150 annually by 2050 without action.
Urgent local reforms and emissions reductions are needed to protect the Jersey Shore from escalating coastal flooding.
Coastal flooding days to increase as early 2025
The Jersey Shore is bracing for a significant increase in coastal flooding days as early as 2025, according to a recent NOAA warning. Sandy Hook, in particular, is projected to experience up to 17 high tide flood days between October and February. This surge is attributed to rising sea levels, primarily driven by warming oceans and ice loss, factors that render New Jersey exceptionally vulnerable.
