What’s Shaking, Texas? Fracking Blamed for 30+ Quakes Today
US · Published Nov 6, 2025
More than 30 small earthquakes hit western and central Texas today, ranging from magnitude 0.6 to 2.
Experts link the tremors to oil and gas activities, especially fracking, which can destabilize geological faults.
Similar fracking-related seismic activity has been observed in Oklahoma, leading to stricter regulations.
Fracking blamed for Texas quakes today
More than 30 small earthquakes rattled parts of western and central Texas today, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The quakes ranged in magnitude from 0.6 to 2.6 and occurred at shallow depths, between 3.4 and 13.3 kilometers. Experts are increasingly linking these tremors to oil and gas activities, particularly fracking, a process used to extract oil and gas from shale rock.
