A devastating landfill collapse near Jakarta, Indonesia, triggered by heavy rainfall, has resulted in multiple deaths and missing persons. The incident occurred at the Bantargebang landfill, the largest in Indonesia, where approximately 7,500 tons of waste are deposited daily. The sheer volume of garbage, combined with intense rainfall, created unstable conditions leading to a massive avalanche of waste. Over 300 search-and-rescue personnel are currently deployed, using heavy machinery and sniffer dogs to locate survivors and recover bodies. The victims include garbage truck drivers and food stall vendors who were present at the site during the collapse.
