Persistent heavy rainfall in eastern Scotland explained
Eastern Scotland is experiencing persistent and heavy rainfall due to a 'blocked' weather pattern, according to the BBC. This pattern, caused by disruptions in the jet stream, has led to significant rainfall across parts of the UK, particularly in southern England, Northern Ireland, and East Scotland. The Met Office has issued a yellow rain warning for these areas, which is expected to remain in effect until 23:59 GMT on Wednesday. The blocked weather pattern has resulted in high pressure over Scandinavia, preventing low-pressure systems from moving away from the UK, thus causing prolonged wet conditions. Notably, regions like Aboyne in Aberdeenshire have recorded nearly four times their average January rainfall, and the trend continues into February.
