Extreme temperatures affect Arizona and central Plains
A significant heat wave is currently affecting the western United States, with Arizona experiencing particularly high temperatures. The National Weather Service reports that temperatures are soaring 25 to 35 degrees above normal, with some areas in the central Plains seeing temperatures more than 40 degrees above average. This heat wave, driven by a high-pressure system, has broken over 150 daily high-temperature records since March 17. In Arizona, temperatures reached 106°F (41°C) at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, causing over 400 attendees at the Luke Days Air Show in Glendale to require medical attention for heat-related issues.
