The duo faced rapidly dropping temperatures, with the mercury falling from a relatively mild -5°C (23°F) to a frigid -15°C to -20°C (5°F to -4°F) within minutes. This dramatic temperature shift was caused by the swirling cold air characteristic of a polar vortex.
