Critical fire weather conditions prompt Red Flag Warning
Eastern Iowa is under a Red Flag Warning due to critical fire weather conditions, as announced by the National Weather Service in Des Moines. The warning, effective from 10 AM to 9 PM CDT on Saturday, underscores the heightened risk of rapid fire spread resulting from strong winds, low humidity, and dry fuels. Northwest winds are expected to reach 20-25 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph, while humidity levels are anticipated to drop to around 15 percent, creating an environment conducive to fire ignition and rapid escalation. Residents and visitors are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution during this period, refraining from outdoor burning and avoiding activities that could potentially spark a fire, such as using spark-generating equipment or improperly discarding cigarettes.
