Hawaii recovers from unprecedented rainfall and winds
Hawaii is in the midst of a significant recovery operation following a series of Kona storms that brought unprecedented rainfall and high winds, primarily affecting Oahu and Maui. These subtropical, low-pressure systems caused catastrophic flooding, resulting in homes being washed away, roads damaged, and vehicles submerged. The storms threatened a major dam in northern Oahu, leading to the evacuation of approximately 5,500 people north of Honolulu, and over 200 individuals were rescued from the severe flooding.
