Record heat and wildfires devastate Spain
Spain experienced its hottest summer on record, with average temperatures soaring to 24.2°C (75.6°F) between June and August, a significant 2.1°C (3.8°F) above the norm from 1991-2020. The highest temperature recorded was a scorching 45.8°C (114.4°F) in Jerez de la Frontera on August 17. This unprecedented heat exacerbated dry conditions, particularly in the northwest, leading to devastating wildfires that consumed approximately 382,000 hectares of land.
