Dublin Airport had its wettest February ever with 255% of normal rainfall; sunshine was the lowest in decades.
Shannon Airport recorded the highest sunshine hours in the country, but still only 79% of its usual amount.
High rainfall and low sunshine in Ireland
Ireland experienced unusually high rainfall in February, with a 19% increase compared to the norm, marking it as the 19th wettest February on record. The eastern and southern regions, particularly Dublin, were significantly affected. Dublin Airport reported a staggering 255% of its average February rainfall, setting a new record for the wettest February, while Phoenix Park saw two and a half times its typical rainfall. In contrast, sunshine levels were notably low. Casement Aerodrome in County Dublin recorded only 36.7 hours of sunshine, the lowest in 62 years, and Dublin Airport had its dullest February since 1947, with just 36.6 hours of sunshine. Shannon Airport fared slightly better, recording 79% of its usual sunshine hours, the highest in the country.
