Early snow predicted for high-altitude areas
Meteorologists predict the first snow of the 2025-26 U.S. winter season will fall in high-altitude areas of Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado, possibly as early as September. This early snowfall will likely be confined to mountain peaks, signaling the beginning of the winter season in the Rockies. As October approaches, snow is expected to spread across the northern Great Lakes region and into the Northeast, bringing the first flakes to lower elevations. By mid-winter, the Plains and mid-South regions should also experience their first snowfall, marking a widespread transition to winter conditions across much of the country.
