Srinagar shivers as temperatures plummet drastically
A sharp cold wave continues to grip Jammu and Kashmir, with Srinagar recording a minimum temperature of -4°C, marking one of the coldest nights of the season. Gulmarg remains the coldest location at -7.2°C, while Pahalgam recorded -6.8°C. The Meteorological Department forecasts no significant western disturbance until January 20, reducing the likelihood of widespread snowfall. This raises concerns about future water availability, as Chillai Kalan, the harshest winter phase from December 21 to January 30, typically brings heavy snowfall necessary for replenishing water resources.
