India greeted the New Year amidst harsh winter conditions, with a severe cold wave, dense fog, and plummeting temperatures affecting vast swathes of the nation, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Delhi experienced its coldest December day in six years, while Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand remained under cold wave and fog alerts. Visibility was severely reduced in many areas, causing travel disruptions.
