AI model to predict solar storm impacts
NASA and IBM have joined forces to create 'Surya,' a cutting-edge artificial intelligence model designed to enhance space defense capabilities by improving the prediction of solar storms and their potential impacts on Earth. Surya was trained using over nine years of continuous data from the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) and is capable of analyzing vast amounts of solar data to identify early warning signs of solar flares and coronal mass ejections (CMEs). These events can disrupt satellites, aviation, GPS systems, communication networks, and even power grids, making accurate prediction crucial.
