Orange Alert in Bengal as Cyclone Montha Brings More Rain

An orange alert is in effect for several districts in West Bengal due to Cyclone Montha, bringing heavy rain and thunderstorms.
Road connectivity between Mirik and Siliguri has been disrupted due to the Balason River overflowing, and a bridge has been temporarily closed.
Around 3,000 people in Darjeeling have been evacuated to relief shelters, with community camps and kitchens set up to assist displaced families.
Orange alert issued amid heavy rainfall
An orange alert has been issued across several districts of West Bengal as Cyclone Montha continues to bring heavy rainfall and severe weather conditions to the region. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of light to moderate thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph in Murshidabad, North and South Dinajpur, Malda, Jalpaiguri, Coochbehar, and Alipurduar. Residents in these areas are urged to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
