Early snowfall disrupts tourism and agriculture in Uttarakhand
With the monsoon officially over, Uttarakhand has been hit by a sudden spell of cold winds, rain, and early-season snowfall, disrupting tourism and agriculture across several districts. The Gomukh–Tapovan trek in Gangotri National Park has been suspended for two days after heavy snowfall blanketed the trail and made conditions unsafe for trekkers. The snow began late Monday night, covering parts of the route in over half a foot of snow. The park authorities halted trekking on Tuesday and Wednesday as slippery terrain posed risks to visitors. All 139 trekkers who had already started the route have returned safely to Gangotri. Those planning to start were stopped at the base. A decision on reopening will be taken Thursday depending on the weather.
