A 5.9-magnitude earthquake struck Assam’s Sonitpur district on Sunday afternoon, sending powerful tremors across the Northeast and into neighboring countries. The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) reported the quake at 4:41 p.m. IST, with the epicenter near Dhekiajuli at a shallow depth of just 5–10 km.
