Tsunami alert lifted after strong earthquake
Japan has lifted the tsunami alert that was issued following a strong earthquake in the northeastern part of the country. Before the authorities withdrew the advisory, a pair of 20cm waves was detected off the coast. The recent magnitude 7.5 quake earlier in the week caused a torii gate at Yasaka Shrine in Hachinohe City, Aomori Prefecture, to collapse. Roads were damaged, and thousands were left without power amidst freezing temperatures. Officials reported that at least 30 people were injured in Monday’s stronger quake.
