Indian athletes achieved significant milestones at the World Athletics U20 Championships held in Eugene, USA. Basant Kumar Meghwal and Shahnavaz Khan made history by becoming the first Indians to win medals in high jump and long jump, securing a silver and a bronze, respectively. Meanwhile, the Indian women’s 4x400m relay team, comprising Bhoomika Nehate, Tahura Khatun, Tanu Chaudhary, and Thiya Arumugam, qualified for the final round with a time of 3:39.
However, not all performances met expectations, as Nischay Phogat, a national U20 record holder in men’s discus throw, failed to qualify for the final round, finishing 16th overall with a best throw of 59.46m.

Impact & Risks

These achievements highlight India's growing presence in global athletics, particularly in events like high jump and long jump, where the country has historically been underrepresented. The success of the women’s relay team also underscores the potential of Indian female athletes on the world stage. However, the mixed results, such as Phogat's performance, indicate the need for further investment in training and development to ensure consistent success across all events.
