Heavy Snow Warning: Up to 14 Inches Expected in Colorado and Wyoming
US · Published May 7, 2026
A late-season winter storm is bringing significant snowfall to parts of Colorado and Wyoming, with accumulations of up to 14 inches in higher elevations.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the heaviest snow is expected above 10,000 feet in areas such as the Sangre de Cristo and Wet Mountains in Colorado, as well as the Snowy Range in Wyoming.
Lower elevations, including the Denver metro area and cities like Boulder and Fort Collins, could see 2 to 4 inches of snow.

Why It's Important?

The storm poses significant risks to travel and infrastructure. Heavy, wet snow combined with gusty winds may lead to downed powerlines and tree limbs, causing power outages in affected areas. Mountain passes and high-elevation roads, including parts of Interstate 80 in Wyoming and major routes in Colorado, are expected to become very difficult to navigate. Lower elevations, while receiving less snow, may still experience slippery roads and hazardous commuting conditions, particularly during peak travel times. Outdoor activities in affected regions are discouraged due to low visibility and blowing snow.
